About Arthur Tu
Hi! Welcome to my personal homepage!
I was born in Reno, Nevada; my family moved
to Taipei, Taiwan when I was four. As a kid, I studied in Shanghai for two years; came
back to the States for college in 2004; Received a B.S in Computer Science
with a double major in Philosophy in 2007, and a M.S in Logic, Computation
and Methodology in 2009, both from Carnegie Mellon University.
I am currently working on an educational technology start-up that I co-founded in 2009 with my buddy from Tepper School of Business. More details will come.
I'm most interested in 1) understanding how
to enhance student meta-cognition and motivation in learning through hybrids
of didactic and constructivist teaching, 2) understanding, designing and
implementing intelligent computer-based tutors that can be widely deployed
over the World Wide Web, and 3) applying machine learning and data mining
techniques to analyze and discover descriptive models in educational and
social data.
My background is quite interdisciplinary,
and the upside of which is my broad range of academic and nonvocational
interests. When I'm not studying or doing research, I enjoy dancing
(hip-hop, breaking, housing, popping, locking, krumping) and singing (A
capella).
There are two types of people in the world: those who do things because they have to and those who have to do things because they want to. It is also my firm belief that if only one out of ten thousand succeeds, then one must be ready to work harder than the other 9,999.
